BOTOX® & Dysport Injections In Scottsdale, Arizona

Facial aging is inevitable for all of us. The good news though is that you can reverse and delay the effects without the need for surgery. BOTOX and Dysport are the most popular nonsurgical treatments provided by our Arizona cosmetic surgery practice. These treatments are a highly effective way to get rid of crow’s feet, frown lines, and fine wrinkles on the face. Jude LaBarbera, MD Plastic Surgery, injects tiny amounts of BOTOX or Dysport into the muscle, giving patients a rejuvenated and fresh appearance.
Although BOTOX and Dysport are injectables from competing brands, both products are derived from Botulinum Toxin Type A, which blocks signals from the nerves to the muscles and causes wrinkles to soften an relax. BOTOX treatment has been around for over 20 years and is known for its high safety and efficacy profile. Dysport treatment was only approved by the FDA about a decade ago, in 2009. Perhaps the main difference between these two products is that Dysport has less protein than BOTOX, which means the body breaks it down more slowly.

Dr. Jude LaBarbera offers specialist BOTOX and Dysport nonsurgical treatments to remove forehead creases, frown lines, and crow’s feet. Depending on the patient’s aesthetic goals, your plastic surgeon will recommend the best treatment to achieve a brighter and more youthful facial profile.

Your Initial Consultation with Dr. Labarbera

Many patients who choose BOTOX/Dysport nonsurgical treatment are individuals who are looking to relax wrinkles and furrows on the face. During your initial consultation, Dr. Jude will examine the area to be treated, as well as discuss your goals and expectations. The surgeon will select the best treatment approach based on your needs and aesthetic goals. He may also evaluate your overall health to ensure that you are a good candidate for this treatment. This in-person visit is a great opportunity to ask any questions you may have about BOTOX and Dysport injectables before Dr. LaBarbera administers the treatment.

DURING/AFTER TREATMENT

During BOTOX injection, the area to be treated is cleansed and prepped by the surgeon. You may be asked to tense the target area for better placement of the injections. You may experience brief discomfort after the BOTOX or Dysport injection has been administered. Recovery after injection of BOTOX is usually immediate, and patients are able to return to work and social activities right away. You may experience minor bruising in the aftermath of the treatment, but this goes away within a few days. Most patients are able to see improvements in their wrinkles and fine lines within 24 hours after treatment. These improvements can continue to be evident for up to 5 days. The surgeon may request that you repeat treatment every 3-6 months in order to maintain the benefits.

PLAN YOUR PROCEDURE

The average cost of BOTOX and Dysport treatment varies depending on the amount needed. The treatment is administered during an in-office appointment and typically lasts 30-60 minutes. Depending on the patient’s case, a treatment session may use 1-3 syringes, sometimes even more. During your initial visit, Dr. LaBarbera or his staff will be able to assess how many injections you need to meet your desired results. Insurance typically does not cover BOTOX and other elected procedures. Dr. LaBarbera’s office will provide a detailed breakdown of treatment costs so you can make prior arrangements.

BOTOX FAQ

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Since BOTOX and Dysport injections use the same substance (Botolium toxin type A), they are more or less the same product. Perhaps the only difference lies in the potency of trace proteins included in each product, which may make one product more effective than the other. Outside of that, both have been used to treat muscle spasms for years. BOTOX has also been around for over 20 years, while Dysport was also approved by the FDA in 2019. During your in-person consultation, Dr. LaBarbera will discuss preferred injection type so you get the most benefits.

BOTOX rarely causes complications if it’s administered properly. BOTOX injections are one of our most popular nonsurgical treatments for cosmetic skin problems. It is also approved by the FDA and has been used for years to treat excessive sweating, squints, migraines, uncontrollable blinking, and other medical conditions. Keep in mind though that too much BOTOX or Dysport injection can lead to undesirable effects. Patients are advised to find a skilled cosmetic surgeon or skincare professional who has years of experience handling this medication.

There’s been a recent trend where groups of people gather and administer BOTOX injections to themselves in ‘BOTOX cocktail parties’. This can be very dangerous. When administered in the wrong amounts, BOTOX may paralyze unintended muscles, resulting in an abnormal facial appearance. BOTOX injections should only be provided by a skilled professional in a medical setting.

Both BOTOX and filler are commonly used to treat wrinkles and smoothen facial areas. Injectable fillers work by adding volume in the skin to rejuvenate hollow areas and decrease the surface appearance of wrinkles. On the other hand, BOTOX works by relaxing muscles under the skin so that they cannot contract. This causes a smoother effect on the skin’s surface, alleviating wrinkles and other cosmetic issues. Some patients undergo treatment using both BOTOX and fillers.

Most patients are able to resume their normal routines immediate (or a few hours) after treatment with a facial injectable filler. Your surgeon may request that you avoid putting pressure or any form of strain on the treated area. Dermal filers usually settle within a week and patients are able to see the full results of the treatment.
