Lip Fillers and Augmentation Phoenix

Lip Filler in Scottsdale, Phoenix, Gilbert, and Surrounding AZ Cities

Many men and women find that the appearance of their lips affects their confidence level. Gilbert and Scottsdale surgeon Dr. Jude LaBarbera performs lip augmentation to help patients achieve a fuller and more sensual lips. Patients who choose to have lip augmentation come from all age groups. Some patients were naturally born with thinner lips. Due to aging, atrophy may also lead to thinned-out lips and tiny vertical lines that impact your facial aesthetics. Lip augmentation surgery in Gilbert and Scottsdale can help achieve a greater balance between the lips and other facial areas.

When consulting Dr. LaBarbera, he’ll discuss both surgical and non-surgical treatment options. Juvederm and Restylane injections are great for patients who do not want surgery or those who do not have time to recover from surgery. These results from these injectables, however, are temporary. Dermal grafting techniques – which use the patient’s own tissue to augment the lips – are a more permanent approach. Your plastic surgeon will listen to your concerns, help you make an informed treatment choice, and employ the latest approaches to help you achieve full, plump lips.

ideal candidates for lip augmentation

You may be an ideal candidate for this treatment if you exhibit any of these conditions:

  • Thin or flat lips
  • Small lips
  • Drooping lips
  • Asymmetrical lips
  • Vertical lip wrinkles

To minimize the risk of complications, most surgeons will not perform this procedure on individuals who have dental abscesses, cold sores, skin eruptions, lip ulcers, or excessive oral plaque. During your initial consultation, Dr. LaBarbera will examine you, establish whether you are a good fit for this procedure, and recommend the best course of action.

Benefits of lip augmentation

Based on your specific aesthetic needs and goals, a lip augmentation procedure can help:

  • Add volume to your lips
  • Enhance lip definition
  • Rejuvenate aging lips
  • Improve overall contour of the lips

options for lip augmentation

Cosmetic surgeons have various treatment options for lip augmentation. The surgeon will recommend the most beneficial method based on the patient’s concerns and cosmetic goals.

A) Injectable Filler – fillers are a very common alternative for patients who prefer non-surgical augmentation. Fillers are typically created from various substances that naturally occur in the body, such as hyaluronic acid. Filler augmentation leads to temporary results and reinjection is required every few months to maintain the new-found cosmetic look.

B) Fat Filler – the surgeon may also use a fat transfer to achieve the augmentation. Fat cells (deposits) are harvested from donor areas in the patient’s own body through the process of liposuction. The fat is then purified, and inserted with tiny syringe-like devices into the lips. The surgeon slowly layers the fat graft to augment the lips in accordance with the patient’s cosmetic goals. This approach also leads to a permanent augmentation.

C) AlloDerm – this is a soft and pliable implant that is donated from human tissue and thus does not cause any allergic responses. Because AlloDerm is porous, natural tissues within the lips are able to integrate through it, further enhancing the appearance of the augmentation. AlloDerm implants are inserted in the exact same way silicone implants are placed. This option is popular with patients who are looking for a permanent augmentation.

Dr. labarbera’s approach

Dr. LaBarbera works individually with each one of his patients to create a treatment plan that will provide the most benefits. Countless men and women who received lip augmentation in Phoenix, Scottsdale, and Gilbert are satisfied with the surgeon’s work.

For patients who prefer augmentation through implants, Dr. LaBarbera will make incisions on the corner of the mouth, and create a tunnel through which to insert the implant. This way, any scars resulting from the surgery are concealed and unnoticeable to the naked eye. Fine sutures that dissolve after healing are used for a complete, pleasing look. In cases where injectable fillers are used, the surgeon does not need to make any incisions. The fillers are directly injected below the lip’s surface using small needles. During this process, he takes great care to shape the filler in accordance with the patient’s cosmetic goals.

During/after treatment

Lip augmentation surgery – where an implant needs to be paced – is typically performed at Dr. Jude LaBarbera’s Gilbert or Scottsdale (Arizona) operating room under general anesthesia. The entire surgery takes about an hour to complete and patients are able to go home the same day. Lip augmentation with injectable fillers does not require any anesthesia. Nonetheless, local numbing may be performed to increase the patient’s comfort level during the procedure. It’s common for patients to experience swelling and bruising after lip augmentation, but these usually go away within a few days. Patients can immediately see the results of the augmentation, but it may take up to a few weeks for the final results to manifest.

Plan your procedure

Lip augmentation surgery costs between $3,000 and $6,000. Where injectable fillers are used, the procedure cost will run between $500 and $800 per syringe. Given that reinjections are required to maintain the results, the long-term cost can be more than that of augmentation surgery (using implants). Insurance typically does not cover lip augmentation, so patients will need to make their own arrangements.

temporary vs permanent lip augmentation?

Patients can either choose to have a temporary, a semi-permanent, or a permanent lip augmentation. In cases where patients don’t want to have surgery or do not have the time to recovery from lip surgery, then temporary augmentation (through injectable fillers) is a common choice. Temporary augmentation also tends to be less expensive. However, keep in mind that reinjections are required every few months and the total long-term costs can exceed those of permanent augmentation through surgery.

how authentic are the results of lip augmentation?

Modern, skilled surgeons use advanced approaches to accomplish great results and provide a natural look with lip augmentation. Patients are advised to work with a highly experienced cosmetic surgeon in order to get better results and minimize the risk of complications.

will there be visible scars?

Dr. Jude LaBarbera will place incision sites along the natural lip line. This way, any scars resulting from the procedure are hardly noticeable – it at all. In the case where fillers are used, the injection does not cause any scars at all.
