Serving Scottsdale, Phoenix, Gilbert, and Surrounding AZ Cities
Gynecomastia plastic surgery aims to reduce the breast size and enhance the chest contours in men. Enlarged breasts are a condition that can affect men regardless of their age. It’s more common for younger boys who are going through puberty, and older men whose bodies are changing with age to grow excessive breast tissue. Dr. Jude LaBarbera helps male patients in Gilbert, Scottsdale, Phoenix, and surrounding Arizona areas have a firmer, more masculine chest. Gynecomastia surgery is a great option for men who are trying to overcome the anxiety of exposing their chests in public.
Losing weight may help reduce the appearance of male breasts, but often times, there’s excessive breast tissue that can affect even the leanest of men. Gynecomastia is a consistently effective treatment to reduce unattractive male breast tissue. It offers permanent results while improving the patients’ self-confidence. Many gynecomastia surgery patients say that they feel comfortable going shirtless for the first time in years.
what causes gynecomastia?
Enlarged breast shape in men disrupts the masculine figure and causes psychological distress. This condition may affect either one or both breasts and in different ways. Gynecomastia is fairly common (affecting 40% – 60%) of all men. Some of the known causes of enlarged male breasts include obesity, congenital abnormality, excessive alcohol consumption, use of steroids, unusual breast tissue growth, sagging skin, hormonal imbalance, and sometimes the use of drugs such as marijuana. Regardless of the cause, Dr. LaBarbera works with all of his patients to remove ‘man boobs’ and restore normal chest size and shape.
candidates for gynecomastia
You may be a good candidate for male breast reduction if you feel uncomfortable or are self-conscious about the appearance of your chest. Men who tend to avoid certain activities because they are afraid of showing their feminine appearing chest also make good candidates for this surgery. Dr. LaBarbera treats each patient’s case as unique and goes to work in order to get dramatic, near-immediate improvements while at the same time minimizing scarring. Dr. LaBarbera may consider other factors such as good health, breast abnormalities, and stable weight when qualifying patients for male breast reduction surgery.
Before going the surgical way, Dr. LaBarbera will perform a number of tests and possibly even prescribe medication to see whether there are any improvements. If gynecomastia persists, then surgery will be the only option. The kind of surgical technique used will be influenced by the severity of gynecomastia. Some mild cases of breast enlargement may be successfully corrected using liposuction. This entails making tiny incisions around the areola and inserting suction tubes to extract fat and breast tissue. In cases of severe gynecomastia, a bigger incision will need to be made as the surgeon extracts excessive breast tissue and loose skin. In some cases, Dr. LaBarbera will include skin tightening and repositioning of the nipples to achieve a proportional new chest shape.

During and after surgery
Male breast reduction is performed at an accredited surgical facility under the use of local or general anesthesia. The operation may take 1-2 hours to complete as the surgeon works to extract unnecessary breast fat and tissue. Patients can expect some bruising and swelling around the chest area over the first few weeks after the procedure. The surgeon will issue a compression garment that must be worn for a period of about 2 weeks. This helps with reshaping and healing. Although many patients are able to return to their regular routines after a few days, strenuous activities should be avoided (for about 3 weeks). The surgeon will give you individualized instructions to make sure that the recovery and healing process is smooth. After a full recovery, most patients are satisfied with the results of their male breast reduction surgery.
Planning for gynecomastia
Male breast reduction surgery costs $6,500 – $8,000 depending on the complexity of the case. If the gynecomastia is minor and can be treated via liposuction, then the fee will be on the low end. However, in severe cases that may require additional nipple repositioning or skin tightening, patients may pay up to $10, 000. Dr. Jude LaBarbera works with a team of highly skilled (and licensed) support staff at his plastic surgery office in Scottsdale and Gilbert. Most of his clients are from town, but he also works with many patients from other surrounding Arizona areas.
Are all cases of breast enlargement gynecomastia?
Will my chest muscles show?
Gynecomastia hides the normal chest muscles. Male breast reduction surgery focuses on removing the overdeveloped layers of breast tissue, leaving the pectoralis (chest muscle) intact. After the procedure, patients will notice that their chest muscles are more visible. With proper dieting and exercising after recovery, they will be able to naturally tone and regain a stronger, masculine form.
Will there be scarring?
During male breast reduction surgery, the extent of scarring will be influenced by the surgical technique used. If liposuction is used, then the incisions will be very minimal and positioned around the areola. Dr. Jude LaBarbera makes every effort to minimize scarring while working to achieve the desired results.
